5/15 Done!

My fifth week accomplished in #DS106 with the completion of this narrative which summarizes my week focusing on visual aesthetics. I learned early on in life to appreciate all the senses we are blessed to have. I learned best from playing hide and seek blindfolded with an uncle who had his sight taken from him at the early age of 18 after suffering a bullet to his frontal lobe. Although I cheated when playing this game with him, I realized just how in tune he was with the world around him while growing into a man with only four out of five senses to work with. Trying to understand how he was aware, how he knew what I then identified with knowing because of sight amazed me. Though with my being intrigued by his heightened sense of the world around him, I would be given a different perception on just how powerful our sense of hearing is if only depending on that sense.

With channeling our focus on the visual aspects this week I would struggle with viewing The Wire by sight alone. Knowing the characters and having knowledge of the story line helped but it definitely made watching, using my sight alone a bit drab. I think I preferred audio over visual early on in the week. However, with beginning the assignments I found a new-found love for the true beauty of things in sight provided compliments of our eyes!

Visual Assignments:

The Visual assignments consisted of attaining a total of 12 stars and boy did I feel the pain! I’m telling you by the end of the week I definitely exclaimed to the world that “the STRUGGLE is REAL”.
I chose to perform a collage which took me a couple of days trial and error with various mediums to conquer; Photoshop and GIMP I have yet to master. It took the curiosity of an 11-year-old missing her mother’s attention to creep up from behind me and question whether I considered gluing them (her words) on to a word document. I swear that child is a genius. I searched for tutorials on doing it this way an found a YouTube tutorial here
and was able to create the beauty of A-Z Sea Life with that method. The collage gave me and my child the opportunity to choose known and newly learned life within the sea pictured in my take on A-Z Photo Collage.

Next I chose to up the ante by pursuing the 4 star piece called “Just Over Half Done” through the use of Pixlr as instructed in the tutorial found here.

I wrapped up the week with my last two visuals being one 2 star found here and the other 2 1/2 star located here.

Daily Creates

I had my fingers crossed with TDC’s as the first ones proved complicated for my level of expertise. I lucked up with some pretty minimal challenges towards the end of the week with some fun tasks! The first was my shot at animating Dr. Groom:

I will say I think I was pretty fair in sketching a quality portrait for someone with no past artistic instruction.

My next Daily Create will give credence to just how chaotic a week this was even without inviting new commitments. At least those I had an option of committing to

The look on my baby’s face while in the company of click of middle school friends can never be bartered with. I clearly get the mom of the year award; oh and the clean up work left behind as well. Oh well the life of a mother, wife, and student will test your limits and I welcome the challenge daily!

Video Discussion:

I have to say I tried like no one could ever imagine but I was not able to juggle the video discussion of the live viewing session. Though I can completely agree with the responses of those that replied with insight @malalbrycht7 I wanted to turn audio on oh soo bad!

Photoblitz:

Definitely my highlight of the week was doing photoblitzing. My family couldn’t understand why I was running in circles and in the personal spaces taking random weird photo shots; and I had not the time to explain. I knew the snap shooting would be the easiest portion of this assignment. Getting the things in order to look clean, half azz like I knew what I was doing was going to be the trying part. As you can see I put forth the time it required to create a piece worthy of sharing, Seeing is Believing, though this belief can be somewhat deceptive with the birth of the technological revolution!

My summary end took a hit with trying to add the touches which show my growth with this new-found empowerment tool (#DS106). I’ll gladly take that hit to show that my instruction has been taken into consideration and put to use through the display of the tasks assigned to me. I hope to see further growth from myself and managing time with applying the skills I’ve gained and those I’m sure I am still expected to acquire. Input is always welcome here as you all enter My H3adspace.
