Interesting… The Vignelli Canon

I once said, “Always have faith in your dreams, it’ll eventually come true if you have faith in it.” I’m going to be honest here, when Professor Groom assigned us to read “The Vignelli Canon”, I was like “Wait what?” but as I read it afterwards I became interested in it. I love a reading when it has tons of valuable details. The reason is because at the end of the reading, the concluding sums it up. After reading it, I was like:

When I was looking to find GIF, that caught my attention because it represented after reading Vignelli. Vignelli seemed to understand and explained well four out of the many main concepts of design in what Vignelli wrote: Semantics, Syntactics, Discipline, and Pragmatism. That’s what I thought from my understanding of this reading. I’m really terrible at doing my best to interpret the reading but like I said before, I try my best to interpret it. I thought even though the reading of Vignelli captured my attention, Semantics is basically to understand what does the design represent. Shortcut to it means like what does the design mean. Syntactics means like how all the element parts of the design are combine and fitted together. Discipline is basically like a barrier wall in which we are trying to design. There are kind of rules basically. Without discipline, we don’t have any design. Finally Pragmatism, that basically sums up as the final touch of acknowledging the design. To sum up of what I understood of Vignelli’s reading, like we know what design is and how to make it. The concept of design we understand, it’s just Vignelli puts everything of design straightforward by defining it to us.
