Look, Listen, Analyze – Season 3 Episode 8

While watching the beginning scene of Season 3 Episode 8 the camera work is very fast paced. Within the first minute there are multiple camera angle changes. The producer zoomed in on specific objects or actions and then would change the angle or the view to something else. One thing I noticed is the producer tried to make it seem like you were in Hamsterdam viewing all of this because while you saw a drug deal go down cars or people would pass in front of the camera. To me this made it seem more like I was an observer of the scene in Hamsterdam. When the one boy goes into the building and gets robbed the camera moves very quickly and almost has a constant blur to it making it seem more realistic. When someone gets robbed it is not a slow process it happens very quickly and is over in the blink of an eye. At the end when the cops saw the man crawl out of the house duct taped you could see the emotions on the cops face as well as the man’s face.

Now for the audio side. You can immediately hear the sounds of the Hamsterdam street dealers trying to sell their products. You then hear a car come up and a woman asks for an 8 ball. You know a deal is going down and honestly the girl seemed pretty scared to be asking for some drugs. Then a man is talking about slamming ice and if he wants some to go in the building and say “Rafik” (I don’t know If I spelled that correctly). Next you just hear background noises and then all of a sudden you hear the sound of guns  and a man saying “Ask me if it’s loaded B*tch.” You hear what sounds like duct tape then it cuts to another group of people what sounds like police officers because of a radio in the background. A man then says “Goddamn can’t you ever get a police when you need one.” Then the scene cuts to the wire intro. Just listening to the audio gives you a general idea of what is going on but you kind of paint your own picture in your head as to what the visual side of it is.

When you put the audio and visual together you realize what all the little background sounds were. Having the visual to add to the audio definitely helps me understand what is happening more. For me when I listen to just the audio I get caught up in what they are saying and tend to not hear everything because I am trying to breakdown what I previously heard. The background noises and sound effects add to the visual aid to make it seem more realistic.
