This opening scene was a killer. For the first time, it wasn’t about the disputing crews as much as it was about the innocent people around them whose lives they affect. I thought this was a very important move to make.

I really liked the difference in colors and lighting with Bodie and Stringer here. Stringer is dealing with a lot of problems right now, and Bodie sure isn’t helping.

Here’s another case of red, yellow, and blue. Ziggy’s duck met its death in this episode, which was really upsetting, but not unexpected based on the amount of alcohol it was being given. Ziggy’s new scheme seems a little doomed and like it’s probably going to fail big time as it seems written in the stars that he’s not going to have a happy ending.

Here’s another case of red, white, and black. Stringer and the Barksdale crew’s storyline is getting very interesting as they seem to be on a major downturn with so much of their crew incarcerated or dead. Plus, the new leadership isn’t all that smart and they’ve got some real competition that they don’t seem to be trying to wipe out in a very smart way. I’m really intrigued to see where this goes.

About the Women

There’s been a lot of discussion about the women from the start of this series. It seems to be just getting worse. Of course, part of this is HBO, so we can only expect gratuitous amounts of breasts and plenty of sex. But the part of this season that depresses me the most is that box full of dead girls that no one seems to care about. The bodies were just a starting point, something that’s ruining the statistics for a department and making Rawls look bad. Valchek doesn’t care about them nor the drugs nor where the case is going. He only seems to care about making this about Frank Sobotka. While this was humorous and ridiculous at the beginning of the season, now with so much uncovered and so much evil and awful being found out, I’m getting upset that Valchek wants to still make this about Sobotka instead of letting them unravel this big case. At the end of the day, it just goes to show how little these women are cared about and how centered everything is on the males and what they’re doing. Women are expendable and what they’re doing or how they’re dying doesn’t matter as much as the crimes committed by a bunch of males. It makes me sick.
