Week 7 Completed This Early?

I cannot believe I completed week 7 this early. I didn’t want to but I needed to. Since I am going camping this weekend and won’t have internet or much electricity I had to get it completed and I DID!

Group Meeting

My group and I met up this week to discuss the radio show. We have our main theme set and some ideas of what we are going to do for the radio show. We were all extremely busy this week with midterms and what not so as soon as we all return for fall break we will be diving in headfirst and getting our radio show completed.

Daily Creates

Your Weird and Wonderful DS106 Letterhead – for this daily create we had to create a letterhead for DS106. At first I created one for myself since I did not read the directions so I had to redo it. I Used the logo from the DS106 website and added a little saying as well as a tag.

Evil Guinea Pigs – I have never owned a guinea pig nor wanted to. I don’t like them too much. I don’t know why I just am not fond of them. Anyways I found this picture online by googling Evil Guinea Pigs. I just searched through the pictures until I found one I liked.

Audio Assignments (10 Stars)

  • Create a DS106 Radio Bumper (1.5 stars) – I created a radio bumper that also incorporated The Wire so I could possibly use it for my radio show. Using youtube to get the wire theme song as well as the sound effects of trying to tune into a radio station (before digital radio’s) I was able to create my bumper. I also recorded my voice saying “DS106.”  I used audacity to stretch out my voice and lower the pitch to give it a cooler sound.
  • Incy Wincy Spider Polyphony (2.5 stars)  –  I definitely remember having to sing like this in elementary school music class. I hated music class probably because I can’t sing. I save all of your ears and used a recorded song. Using audacity I was able to import 3 Incy Wincy spider tracks (all the same one) and shift them so they started at different times. I turned the gain down on track 2 and 3 so they were not overpowering each other. It turned out all right but it is not something I would listen to often or ever.
  • Where Great Minds Get To Work (3 Stars) – Creating a cheesy radio commercial for UMW was fun. I knew exactly what I wanted to say because I think our slogan “Where great minds get to work” is cheesy as is. I found some “Uber Cheesy” 80’s music on youtube and used that as my background sound.
  • My Mornings In Sound (2 Stars)- Another interesting assignment to complete. I have basically the same routine every morning but never really pay attention to how it sounds. This assignment let me do that. For one day this week I got up a little early to record the sound of everything I did. I then used audacity to edit the sounds and put them together. I had to use zamzar.com to convert the voice memo’s from my iPhone from mp4 format to mp3.
  • It’s Halloween Season (3 stars) – Since it is October when I saw this assignment I had to complete it. At first I was trying to do something simple since I was running low on time but then I got into it and wanted to make it really cool. It took me some time to listen to all the different creepy sounds I wanted to use. Then editing them together also took some time. In the end I think it turned out really cool and pretty creepy especially the beginning and end.

Well I have completed week 7. My group and I are ready to get going on the radio show next week, but for now I am going to go camping and enjoy my break. Not think about and school work for the next couple days and let Future TPeedHisPants deal with what needs to be done next week.
