Wine Will Only Make This Easier: Week 2 Recap

I hope my blog title is exciting enough to have gotten you to want to read this post. It was inspired from an exchange of tweets about Mondays:

Hopefully, this whole blogging thing will be even more impressive this week as I have a better understanding of the expectations!

The first thing I knocked off the list of tasks for the week was installing Known. I’m very interested in how this will affect discussion and interactivity. It seems like a very interesting feature. However, I was really confused and frustrated for part of the installation process as I was following the video embedding in the blog, and a lot of that is incorrect and lead me to have errors. Once I did it on my own and just logically followed through the steps, I was able to install it successfully! Hooray!

Logo for a Scientist

I wrote my father's name in the NASA worm style as my father, although not necessarily a famous scientist, did work at NASA Langley Research Center for over thirty years and does have a patent as well as has done some important research for aeronautics.

Map of the Internet

Here is a very simple map that show my main relationships with the Internet. Twitter is a very urban area. Facebook is the suburbs. YouTube is like a beach resort.

Creative Assignment

For the Creative Assignment, I decided to do GIFs for Episode 8 of The Wire.

The Wire Episodes

I wrote up a blog post analyzing the three episodes we had to watch this week.

The Wire Season 1, Episode 10

The Wire Season 1, Episode 11

The Wire Season 1, Episode 12

The Wire Discussion

I participated in the live discussion about episode 12, “Cleaning Up,” on Friday afternoon. I really enjoyed the experience, as it’s been really nice to interact with professors and students, and get feedback about my thoughts and creations. I found it a little bit difficult to find something to say about the different topics brought up, as the episodes have run together in my mind. Likewise, the analysis I’ve been doing of the episodes has been more focused on the visuals than the plot and how that is playing out. I think it would be really helpful if before the discussion, I was given a list of scene or important moments from the episode and questions about it, as well as the time stamps for those scenes, so I could review them and be better prepared to discuss the content. I think it’s very important that everyone participating is well prepared, because these discussions are going to be watched by others and therefore should be the best that they can be. Still, I really enjoyed myself and look forward to participating in more discussions!
