The “Bunk” William Moreland

I wanted to keep a running post of my work on the final project for Bunk and have done so here. Bunk is a really cool character and so wonderfully sarcastic and ridiculous, yet serious and a decent investigator, so it has been fun creating Bunk outside the world of the Wire.

“My name is William Moreland, but I go by “Bunk.” I grew up in West Baltimore and now take care of its crime and inhabitants as a Baltimore detective. I like to think of myself as a pretty steady man: I like a pinstriped suit on, a cigar in one hand and a couple drinks at night. I approach murders, and the general world, with sarcasm. After all I’m just a humble motherfucker with a big-ass dick.

Oh yeah, and I have three kids with my wife Nadine at our house in Randallstown.”

This is the biography blurb I created for Bunk to give a sense of who he is and what we know about him from the Wire. I did a bit of research on sites that look at the Wire and Bunk in particular.

I also made four social media sites for Bunk and updated them throughout the last few weeks. I added some new Facebook and Twitter friends from the people in class and try to regularly add photos to all of the outlets.

I also interacted with other Wire characters from class through these outlets. First I posted on Omar’s Facebook in light of Bunk recently working with Omar to find the real killer and get Omar off the block.

I also sent an invite on LinkedIn for Roland Pryzbylewski from Bunk’s account.

I also tweeted at Beatrice Russell and friended Kima on Facebook, then wrote a funny message on her wall about the joke Bunk played on her when she joined his team.

One of my first projects for Bunk was to create a “And you are” design, depicting Bunk as we know him through the Wire.

I also had Bunk write a police report that I based off of a song called “Gravediggaz.”

Bunk’s wanted poster for McNulty was pretty fun to make and I wanted to point out their interesting friendship in my work on Bunk.

For the second week of major Bunk assignments, I had him create a book cover for his new book “Suits and Cigars…the tale of a successful and sarcastic Baltimore Police Detective” for the Book Artist Assignment. I used canva.com to make most of it and added a tutorial to the ds106 website.

Bunk also played with logos this week and merged Brook’s Brothers and Men’s Wearhouse, two of his favorite places to shop for suits.

Bunk’s last assignment this week was to make some post-it notes of what he has to do and for various aspects of his life for the post it notes and grocery lists assignment. I had general reminders, as well as typical grocery and to do lists, but I also added a work list. I tried to make it funny and think as Bunk. I also made a tutorial for this assignment on the assignment bank site.
