Video X 2

I’ve really been enjoying the Video Assignments. I think these have been my favorite weeks.I read the warning label to this class, but it seriously was not a joke that this class would be a lot of work! But it’s fun work. And it is really rewarding when I create something to be proud of.Here’s what I had going on these past couple weeks:.

The Quacking Censor

I chose to do the 5 star That Bleeping Censor assignment. Immediately after reading the assignment my thoughts jumped straight to the scene where McNulty and Bunk are in an apartment investigating a murder and had a not-so-colorful choice of words for the entire scene. Instead of simply putting a bleeping censor, I thought I would replace the dirty word with a “quack.”

I downloaded the scene on YouTube and uploaded it into Windows Live Movie Maker. This tutorial was pretty helpful. Using the split tool, I muted the volume every time they cursed (stopped counting after 23).

I downloaded the quacking noise from freesound.org here.

There was some extra time in the beginning and the end of the sound so I had to use Audacity to cut it out. There were also a couple point where they cursed several times in a row so I copied the quack three times and made a new clip in Audacity for those moments.

I inserted the quacks in the places I muted the audio. I’m pretty happy with how it came out!

Omar Takes a Walk: Swede

Brittany and I decided to take on the Swede A Scene video assignment together! This was one of the most fun assignments I think we have done this semester. Brittany’s boyfriend Ryan very generously let us borrow his video camera and agreed to be our Omar! He was a really good sport.

We used the scene in season 4 at the beginning of episode 3. Here is the original scene. Fast forward to 1:18 for the start of where we started our version (and also so you don’t have to see Omar naked again).

When recording we did our best to try to get the same angles used in the original scene. We had a couple helpers (mentioned in the ending credits) who helped us out by being extras in our clips. Also since this is a swede, we made the scenes extra cheesy like a low quality film. We used Brittany and I’s house for the different settings.

After recording we met at the Convergence Center to use the video editing software on the Mac’s. Although neither of us had used it before, we got the hang of it pretty quickly. We put the recordings in order and trimmed the scenes to make them flow together nicely. Then we added some sound effects including city night crowd, which gave the effect of busy streets around him, corny jazz music for when he’s in the store, and of course the suspenseful sound when zooming in on the “drugs.”

Here’s what we ended up with! We were both very happy with the outcome and it didn’t take us nearly as long as we expected.

MakeUp Time Lapse

Since I just used the time lapse setting on my iphone 6, I’ll give myself 2 stars instead of the 3.5 it suggests for the Activity Time Lapse assignment. This was a fun little assignment to do. I don’t do my make up very often, so I thought this would be the prefect activity to see in fast mode. For you boys, you see what girls have to go through! It takes me about 10 minutes, but this video condensed it to less than 30 seconds. Here you go!
