The assignment for a classic painting blended with something in the Wire, or the “Creative Mashup” was really interesting to me, and after watching the opening of episode 9 I figured out exactly what I wanted to do. Many are familiar with Edvard Munch’s painting “The Scream” and I found it was a perfect parallel to the mother’s face and screams in episode 9. Upon seeing her dead son on the floor, blood pouring from his head, the mother puts her hands to her face. Before she screams, the camera switches to a view of the main street, and then we hear the blood-curdling scream of a mother whose child has died.

To make this I found a photo of “The Scream” online and took a screenshot from episode 9. I uploaded both to canva.com and placed a cropped photo of the mother’s face over that of the screamer. It’s not perfect, but I think I matched up the sizing well enough so that the hands almost match up between the mother and screamer in the painting.
