Weekly Summary : Week 1

This week was a very interesting start to the ds106 class. I have used many of the social media sites before, but had to set up new ones for official school purposes. I did not, however, have any previous experience with WordPress so I spent some time doing some of the daily creates to become more acquainted with the program before the harder assignments start.

First off I created my new Flickr, Youtube, Soundcloud, and Twitter accounts. I then posted my first tweet to try to introduce myself to the class, and then embedded it into my blog. Through out the week I also managed to do two daily creates and embed them into my blog [Aug 25th, Aug 26th, and Aug 28th]. So far I have really enjoyed the daily creates that I could do and I look forward to being challenged by them the rest of the semester.

I find The Wire to be rude, crude, and impolite, but somehow I also can’t stop watching it. I am drawn to it as a show because you are not supposed to like all of the characters (I mean there is no way you are supposed to feel sympathy for the cop who blinded a 14 year old kid). They are not trying to shop the Detroit police as saviors, or perfect, but they are showing a more realistic side of cops in a town that is going to ruins. All of the sops are represented as real people and although I do not find the main plot line too interesting I am interested in the lives of the cops involved. Overall, I am very interested to see where the show goes next.
