Design Blitz

This weekend, I went home to watch my sisters. My mom and stepdad took a vacation to Barcelona (so jealous!!) and I am babysitting to make some money. This morning, I had to take them to Sunday School so I figured I would do my design blitz at our synagogue. It was cool wandering around looking for design principles. It’s been awhile since I was here so there are many new decorations.

The first photo I took was of the chairs we have for services. It shows rhythm because of the repetition of the rows. We set the chairs up in a semi circle pattern to ensure everyone can see. I thought that just added to the rhythm of the chairs. There is  rhythmic movement in this photo as well because your eyes move from one row to the next.

The next photo I took was of the stained glass windows. These represent the seven days of creation. These windows send a message to all those who see. It coveys the meaning of the beginning of life according to the Jewish people.

The next picture I took displays unity. This picture is of the donation tree we have. Whenever someone makes a donation, they get a leaf with their name on it. The tree and leaves are separate, yet they are seen as united. It shows the relationship between the whole tree and its parts–or the whole synagogue and its parts.

This photo shows balance. On the left are tallits, the shaul Jewish people wear during services. On the right are the books. These are similar to ones in a church. There is balance in this photo because you need both for services. The photo itself shows balance because they both take up an equal amount of space, but are very different in appearance.

The last picture  I took was of the cards my sister was playing with. There were a deck of purple cards and a deck of red cards. I arranged them this way to show the contrast of the cards. The red cards blend in because they are a popular color for a deck of cards. Purple is unusual. It’s a bold color that stands out. Although purple can be made from red, there is still a huge contrast. The purple card draws viewers attention.
