“See With Your Eyes Dilated”

Another week gone by in DS106. It was quite the week I started out the week stressing but I managed to make it through. I really enjoyed all of the assignments and hope you like them. I’ll explain what I was thinking while I was doing each section.

Daily Create:

BSEmpathyMap

20141006_002030(1)

For the empathy map I really just filled the slots in according to how I was feeling. I used my surroundings and I guess I was thinking about you guys trying to guess where I was at. Especially when I said 13 chairs and 3 whiteboards. I was thinking someone would comment with a guess. For the second one I did the water and glass moving around. I didn’t really understand what was happening but I tried to make it interesting. I actually almost forgot to do it. SO I asked my roommate to help me and let me know if you see his face at the end. For my last daily create I did the drawing to represent how I’m feeling. Right now at this particular moment in the semester I am buried. There is so much going on and so much I have to keep up with that I don’t know how I’m going to make it. But the picture is basically of a person sinking calling for help.

Vignelli:

I really enjoyed reading the booklet by Vignelli. I was trying to think like an artist while reading it and that might have been just a little too much. I found myself getting confused because I think I was over thinking everything he said and not just reading it. It probably was a lot more simple than what I made it but it was still very interesting. I really like his first three points about Semantics, Syntactics, and Pragmatics which I reflected on. Take a look at it and let me know what you thought.

DesignBlitz:

For the designblitz I decided to do mine while I was at home since I was going to be there for the weekend anyway. It was really fun and interesting mostly because when you’re at home you really don’t pay attention to the things that are around you. Yea, you know they’re there but they don’t really stick out to you. I think that’s what made this whole project fun for me and going from room to room in the house was very weird when I was trying to take pictures. I was getting a lot of side eye from my brother. He wouldn’t have been looking at me like that if he knew what I said about him in my post. SO you guys check it out and let me know what you think.

Design Assignments:

I really enjoyed doing all of the design assignments this week. My favorite would probably have to be the Typography Poster. I was trying to make the lyrics from “Waves” come alive in a way. I was thinking that if people liked my poster maybe they would like Joey’s music and me as well. When I was doing the bumper sticker I could not think of an original slogan. It was probably the hardest one for me to do. I sat there for hours trying to be creative. I finally decided that it didn’t have to be the most catchy slogan it just had to give a good message which I think I did. The Venn Diagram mas tough and probably a close second to being the hardest. I really wanted to do it but didn’t know how. When I figured out how to use Gimp everything got easier.Getting the information to go on the inside wasn’t that hard, but making those three circles took forever. I enjoyed doing it though. The trading cards were very fun. I loved catching the characters in action with a screenshot and taking quotes. Thinking about it that was probably the easiest assignment of this week, but it was still fun and interesting.

The Wire:

The three episodes of The Wire really had me captivated this week. I was interested all the way through. I think the shooting scene in the ninth episode caught my attention. It made me want more throughout the next two so I watched and anticipated. I was really shocked by Stringer Bell and the moves he made. I guess I’m thinking of the show as one big game of chess or multiple games of chess. I never really know what to think. I’m always anticipating, but a lot of the time what I think is going to happen doesn’t. I guess that’s a good thing thought. It means that the show isn’t obvious and keeps it’s audience guessing and that’s what I like about it.

This was actually a very good week for me. So check out my work and let me know what you think.
