Switching things up

This week is an easier week, everything is becoming much less complicated for me. I am finally getting the hang of things! One thing I struggled with for a few was creating the menu’s. I found this website that was extremely helpful in creating the menu’s. I think Jetpack is fully installed, I found that if you had this plug-in Page Links To, the menus would connect to the categories selected for the post. Commenting is probably my biggest struggle in this course.. I am working on getting better at it! The assignments I found to be very fun, I did tweek two of them, so I could relate it back to The Wire.

The Wire

Episode 13:

I enjoyed the opening scene when it showed that Kima is alive and starting to recover. As soon as Kima woke up, the homicide detectives were there to get Kima to make an eyewitness statement. In this scene Bunt clearing is trying to tell Kima, who to pick as the shooters, exemplifying the corruption. Luckily Kima did not give in to the corruption and said she could not identify the second shooter. Eventually Jimmy goes to see Kima at the hospital, but her significant other was there. As soon as Kima and Jimmy talk about work, she pulled her hand away and when they continued she left the room. They both seemed to question if it is worth it. Another thing regarding corruption was with Daniels and his wife at dinner. She seemed to know about the money as well, and then the case was going to get taken to the feds, but it would turn into a political corruption case. At then end, Omar is now back in the scene, which make me curious as to what is to come.

Avon and others finally went to jail! It was so exciting to see that the Police finally got their case to a close after their work. D’Angelo ended up flipping on everyone in spite of what they did to Wallace. This opened the case wide open. Then, D’Angelo’s mom found him and from what happened in court, made him rethink that deal.  D’Angelo’s mom, is wearing a bright red outfit when Avon found his new place to set up, when he asks about D’Anglelo. I noticed that the red matched the stop sign, which I kept thinking that she was going to do something to stop D’Angelo from snitching. She ended up going to talk to D’Angelo and tried to get him back in the game. D’Angelo did decide to stick with the family and in the game, rather than create a new life for himself. As mentioned in the discussion, the war on drug never ends, therefore it is not a war because war does end eventually. The episode did a good job in capturing that fact, because even after the sentencing of some of the members of the game, life continued on in the drug world.

Season 2, Episode 1:

This season is very different from the first season of The Wire, many of them have new roles after the case came to a close. Kima is now stuck behind a desk, Daniels is in the evidence unit, and McNulty is now sent to sea. This episode reveals a new location in Baltimore we’ve never seen; the docks. All the men who worked at the docks, fulfill a stereotype of being drunks, which is portrayed at the bar. Although there is a new case evolving with the docks, the episode still related back to season one. It showed String meeting up with Avon in jail, also it showed Stringer still at work in the game. McNulty is still himself. As soon as he found the dead body in the water, he snapped back into his homicide detective role and out shined the detectives.

Many new characters get introduced in this episode, which I still have not gathered their names. The new female police officer that drove to the docks seems to have an important role so far. She ended up discovering dead female bodies in one of the storage compartments that was supposed to get picked up. Maybe this is going to be the new case featured in The Wire? Maybe it has something to do with drugs and somehow connects back to the first season? I cannot wait to find out more, this show has truly got me so hooked!

Season 2, Episode 2:

In episode 2, they reveal more and more about the dock workers. The head guy of police, I can’t remember his name, is acting out of spite because the dock workers have their stained glass up in the nave. Due to that fact, he orders everyone under him to make their lives harder! At the end if the episode, a new case is being built on one of the dock workers, Valcheck, just like in season one with Avon! It is all underground and in an abandoned looking place. The men behind the criminal action involving the dock have some very similar aspects of Avon’s crew. They both kill people who they don’t trust or are done with. McNulty is still invested in his police work, he figured out that the girls were not an accidental death, they were murdered. He got the cases to be Baltimore City’s issue, so now they have 14 John Does on their hands just to piss Rawls off.

The episode also connected back to season one with Avon. Avon has some of the guards under his wing and they do so much for him. No matter where Avon seems to be, he still has some pull that makes people work for him. D’Angelo’s mother is now shown more in the game than ever before, which kind of suspicious to me. But she keeps trying to make sure D’Angelo is being taken care of. One thing that also was interesting was even tho Bey was in jail, he still had fish in his room! I loved his reaction to when the police dumped his fish during a search. He went to Avon later and that was the one thing he was concerned about, nothing else. It was nice to see how much this season is connecting back to season one.

Thoughts on Known:

I absolutely love Known, it makes things so much easier for me. It is extremely straightforward in my opinion.
