The many faces of Dominic West

McNulty future

Lysander, Jimmy McNulty, Robert Mallory…Dominic West. They are all him! Though probably most well-known for his character in the Wire, Dominic West was first known to me as Lysander in the 1999 version of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” that my grandmother used to watch all the time. Then, as I tweeted just the other day, I saw West as WWI veteran Robert Mallory in “The Awakening,” as scary BBC film. I of course added this knowledge to flickr for everyone in class to see, but only after watching him as McNulty in the Wire did I realize West’s vary wide performing ability. So after seeing the “What they did after the Wire” assignment, I immediately thought of McNulty/West.

From renegade teen Brit lover Lysander, to American angry cop and then back to Brit, but this time a post-WWI vet with survivor’s remorse, West has played some interesting characters. I am definitely interested to see where he ends up next. Knowing his deep, sarcastic British voice by heart from watching him as Lysander as a kid, I lament the loss of West’s accent in the Wire, but sometimes detect it. At least he can make fun of himself, like in episode 9 where McNulty feigns a British accent and West must do a poor muddled version of his real voice.

I downloaded photos for West’s before and after photos and took a screenshot from episode 9 for the McNulty shot. I strung them together by taking a larger screenshot and then uploaded them through Known. I’m really getting the process down!
