Colors, Signs, Symbols, & Bears Oh My!

Form/Function/Message

I wanted to focus attention on this concept of design because it is used very often in marketing. The first image to came to mind was the FedEx trucks. Although the logo uses bold colors and typography that definitely demands attention; it is the embedding of the arrow that speaks to their marketing message. If you want to get it and get it quick then go with FedEx!

Color

Next I chose to use my granola as it definitely speaks to design in the way the trademark has used it to connect with its branding! I love this granola and it definitely wasn’t difficult for me to consider trying it with the alluring, playful color of the bag. The play with words “Bear” and “Naked” conveys to the buyer that they will be getting a product absent of additives. For those seeking a healthy alternative this will be sure to tempt your interest.

Rhythm

My husband and I love The King of Roots Rasta so I definitely had to embed a photo of the almighty Bob Marley! In this particular photo there is a definite sense of rhythm conveyed with Bob Marley floating over and ocean of waves. This may be the artist’s attempt to imply the rhythmic talent of Bob’s music or on a deeper note the stand against social injustices that Bob often sings about. I also take notice at the use of dominance in this picture, Bob Marley is the largest element of the picture demanding direct attention to the man himself.

Typography

My last element observed this weekend was typography because I noticed that it is at our every turn in society. We are constantly bombarded by words and the stylistic options available to convey a message to the audience in question. This use of typography left me with some serious explaining to my husband. These damn boots I swear I got for a steal with some savvy couponing skills that I have; but when delivered and my husband was the signer for them the logo of the shipping company alone sent him through the ROOOFFF! The bold lettering and slab serif font in all caps conveyed money to him. For me and women alike it just only conveys exactly what it states; whatever that will be in that box will be just that, FABULOUS!
