Ideas About Ideas

Radio shows are not as simple as people may think. I know for a fact that there is a lot of time and effect. When i think of Radio shows, the first thing that comes to mind is Elliot In The Morning (DC101) and The Kane Show (HOT99.5). I can’t be the only person who listened to those on their way to school or work! Either way, there is a structure to each show, no matter the topic. Yeah, sometimes they goof around or just talk about celebrity gossip, but they’re still structured! For DS106, i wanted to think of a radio show that not only interested people but has a lot of thinking behind it.

What’s Important?

There are so many aspects of The Wire that are so important to the overall success of the show. For example, this week we learned about Audio and how that plays a key role in each episode. For the radio show, we obviously need to think of something major like audio. I’m not to good with audio or design so i began to look for something easier and more obvious. Well, writing a good subject to discuss but it’s also vague. That’s like trying to pick corn from a corn field (wow that’s a bad analogy). Then, boom! What came to mind were the characters. They’re obviously important and it pens up different topics to discuss!

Characters:

Ah, what’s more important to a show then characters? Well, nothing! Character’s make or break the show. For example, when Michael Scott leftThe Office, the show kind of went downhill after that because something was just missing. Not even Will Ferrell could fix it. So my idea for the radio show is to discuss the characters and what they bring to the show. Personally, i love discussing characters. People always have different opinions on this subject. When we went out to lunch last week, the idea of Valchek’s son-in-law came up. After he made that kid in the projects blind, some people wrote him off immediately. Once he stepped up his game and brought valuable information to the table, he gained my respect back. That conversation on him over lunch was just really great and if we weren’t out of time we probably could have spent a bunch more time on the subject. So, there you have it! My radio show: All About Characters.
