Level Up: Week 3 Summary

Maybe it’s just me, but this week felt like things had really leveled up in this class. There seems to be more work of a higher caliber that’s asking us to really get creative. While the list of things to do this week seemed daunting at first, as I began to tackle them, I realized it wasn’t as impossible or stressful as it first seemed.

I reorganized the categories for my blog posts, redid the menu on my website, and installed Jetpack.

“Web 2.0 Storytelling” and Reflection Blog Post

Here is my reaction post to the reading.

The Wire Episodes

I’m really digging season 2 of The Wire.

I wrote blog posts analyzing the final episode of season 1, and the first and second episode of the second season.

Assignments

I did a visual assignment involving emojis in real life, a writing assignment where I wrote a poem using only the episode titles from The Wire, and a design assignment where I made a typographical lyric poster for K. Flay’s “The Cops.”

DS106 Lunch

I was able to attend the lunch on Thursday and enjoyed talking about a variety of things while eating delicious pizza from Brother’s Pizza. I wish we’d spent some more time talking about the class and The Wire, but it was also fun to learn about my classmates’ interests outside of the class.

Wire Live Discussion

Once again, I really enjoyed myself during the discussion. I still think a list of questions or discussion topics given beforehand would be helpful, although talking about the episode before we went live made it a lot easier than just discussing it with out properly warming up my noggin.

Comments

Oh, man. I realize that I am terrible at commenting on blogs. I’ve been enjoying following my fellow DS106ers on Twitter and talking with them that way, but I understanding that I’m not really engaging until I’m commenting on other people’s blogs. I know I’ve been hella slacking on this front, so I’m definitely making plans to get more involved and try to spend a little time each day commenting on people’s creations and blogs. And nothing makes me feel more guilty than when I’ve been getting tons of nice comments on my posts an creations. It’s time for me to repay the favor and help to strengthen the community.
