Rest In Peace, D’Angelo Barksdale

Inspired by Alison

I was so enlightened by Alison’s READ poster as it featured the now deceased D’Angelo Barksdale. Throughout Seasons 1 and 2 of The Wire, I could tell D’Angelo’s perspective on his life and the game was changing. He seemed unhappy back on the streets, as well as disappointed with all the violence, crime, murder, and scheming that was going on. He knew it was wrong.

When he ended up in prison with his uncle, Avon Barksdale, D’Angelo seemed to make a full personality change. During the book club scene, which Alison included in her READ poster, D’Angelo connected with his fellow inmates and found meaning in reading. I found it sad and unfortunately that we had to lose a character which such a dramatic change of heart so quickly in the show.

What I especially enjoyed about this READ poster, was the enlightening quote at the bottom left, reading “You can always learn something about yourself.” I think this quote described D’Angelo Barksdale beautifully.
