Stairmaster: The Wire Season 3, Episode 3 Analysis

I really enjoyed this episode. There were a lot of cool shots and plenty happened that definitely suggests that big things are on the rise.

This was a great shot near the beginning of the episode. It seemed to suggest a solidarity amongst the police force. We definitely see the solidarity full force at the end of the episode. The police force is not always one team, but in the moments that they are, it is nice to witness.

Red and green seems to be the new color scheme. Especially when it comes to red brick and green trees. I’ve also noticed its appearance in more subtle ways.

Here we see green-ish tiles on the wall and red stalls.

Red blood and green table. The white shirt really pops. There’s been a lot of bright, white shirts in this season.

This is a glimpse of the older color palette of red (lighting on the building), yellow (street lights), and blue (Prop Joe’s shirt).

Standing across from him is Stringer wearing a green shirt with the red lit building behind him.

This was an awesome shot. I love how dark their shirts are against the brightly lit building.

This is the typical shot that we see red & green in.

More red & green.

This is a very yellow shot. We also see the mostly empty bulletin board.

Red & green again. McNulty’s shirt and the wall are green while the door and the belt are red.

Screen Shot 2014-10-15 at 9.00.33 PM

Red & green. I also love how the cops are framed in this shot. They really stand out in all black.

This shot just exudes power. Like many other shots from below of less than powerful people, we know that this guy doesn’t come by his power honestly. While he’s no joke like Ziggy, he definitely uses a lot of manipulation.

These warmer colors remind me of the first season. We usually see them with Omar.

Screen Shot 2014-10-15 at 9.14.25 PM

Here’s another instance of children being raised in this world of violence and drug dealing. They’re “playing” Omar’s shoot-out. I love how the kid is even dressed like Omar.

It was odd seeing Omar show some remorse. I’m a big fan of him and always love watching what he’s up to and the cons he runs. He’s lost several people though in the midst of all this, and it seems like it’s finally really taking a toll on him. Also, the lighting is very warm in this scene, which is typical for Omar.

I think it’s really interesting that we’re slowly seeing Kima become like McNulty, but she’s self-aware of it and makes some good points about some of the issues being with the spouse. I also like how McNulty’s red shit contrasts with the green bush behind him.
