The Science Behind The Wire Ends

As Week 8 comes to an end, our radio show comes to live. Although we did not have a lot of different assignments to complete like the previous weeks, week 8 was a lot of work. Putting together a 30 minute radio show isn’t as easy as you would think! And that’s only thinking about it. Having to record and edit the show takes a lot of time. It was fun to do a daily create on top of this! Here’s what I did for week 8.

Blogging out Progress

Like i mentioned above and in other posts, Fall Break was a bad idea. Considering i live on campus and the rest of my group consists of seniors, we were at bad ends. Like Groom requested, i blogged before Wednesday. At that point, the only communication our group had was over a group chat and some emails. This made a little difficult. I knew what i wanted to discuss and i knew what John, Jeremy, and Ien wanted to do but not in details. If we had another day to communicate maybe things would have been less stressful, but the overall product of our show is great. It helped blogging about our progress so Groom and Bond could give us some feedback. Something important Groom told me was that Thursday seemed a little too late to meet so we met on Wednesday. This definitely helped so i’m glad i blogged. I made a separate post about it here that says exactly where we were a group by Wednesday!

Radio Group Call

This week has been chaotic and finding a time where we can all meet with Groom and Bond was a stressful idea. Considering i had Thursday free, i mentioned to my group that either early in the day or mid day would work. Thankfully Groom and Bond were both free then as well. Google hangouts is a little different. I didn’t realize i was on mic and i was mumbling to my room-mate and it was a little embarrassing. Thankfully, only Ien and Jeremy were on the other end. I had this idea that our group call would take at least 30 minutes. Since we met on Wednesday, this was a breeze. We  gave them what we had and everything was good. Groom gave us the thumbs-up and gave us the useful idea of splitting up our show into segments and having transitions. Any excuse for me to play music for people to hear is always a plus. Now that we had our smooth group call, we were ready to record!

Daily Create

With all this audio, i was glad to be able to do a fun daily create. Considering they only take about 10 minutes to do, this wasn’t a hassle at all. The daily create i chose was “Today is a very special day.” I was thinking that since this was out 1010th assignment, it has got to be special. On my blog post about it here, i talk about the picture i used. I almost stepped in pumpkin mush so that day truly was amazing. Look for yourself!

Today Is Special

The Wire

Like every other week, we had to watch 3 episodes from The Wire.

Episode 2: Alright, the dog fight, really? That was really rough. It was a little hard for me to watch especially when he euthanizes the poor pitbull after the fight. I guess it would have been one thing if they killed the dog another way but still. This was a rough scene. Another part, McNulty. Um, YEAH, finally D is brought back up. We all know he didn’t kill himself so i’m happy McNulty is looking more into it. I know D was a bad guy and all but in the end he turned out to be different. Also, hello Omar. We all knew he would come back. ;)

Episode 3: This episode was a little scattered for me. There were two big things that stood out: The stash shoot out with Omar and the Barksdale turf and then McNulty continuing with the private investigation of D’s death. I don’t know why Omar would be going on Avon’s turf and not expect someone to die? COME ON….. And McNulty seems to be really be getting into this. I get nervous every time i see this because i really want them to discover it was a murder and not a suicide.

Episode 4: So the dinner scene with Carcetti and the other (white) people making those comments regarding African-Americans? That was blah. Not sure how to describe it. I know our summaries should be more about the design aspect of these episodes but summaries are always fun too, right? This one is a bit lacking, to be honest. There are just so many little things in this episode. It’s hard to keep track between the police, the Barksdales, etc.

Video discussions

Once again, i did not participate in a video discussion. I really need to start getting on top of that. Next week seems like a good week to do this!

Comments:

Since everyone was working on their radio show, not many posts were flying around but here are some highlights!

-I saw Ien’s progress post with the radio show and considering we are in the group, i was OBLIGATED to comment here

-For Jessica’s daily create, her picture was breathtaking and deserved a comment.

-The detail in this progress post was a little intimidating.

– Amy posted her weekly summary early and i’m interested in hearing her radio show.

– Maggie did a good job of keeping us updated on her show so i’m looking forward to her show as well

– Brittany’s special day picture was a little intense but still cool!

-Maggie’s post for episode 3 was amazing!

– Also, again with Maggie, her post about episode 2 was like mine. RIP Doggies </3
