The Wire Buyers Reflection

This week I listened to The Wire Buyers on the ds106 radio and live tweeted during the show. The show was a lot different from the show my group produced. I liked their idea of looking at the product placements that are on The Wire. Their commercials were well thought out and nicely produced. The show took my emotions through a rollercoaster ride. There were funny moments and also serious ones. I remember towards the end of the show a commercial on gun control change the mood of the show drastically. The mood change caused the listener, at least me, to get the full message of the commercial. It made me really think about the gun control message they were trying to state. They did a really good job with the production of the show. The variety of clips they used made the show unique. Not only did they use clips from The Wire but they incorporated audio segments from other shows, commercials, and what not. Being a business major I thought it was interesting seeing the way The Wire producers strategically used product placement for certain moments in the show.

The production of this show was amazing and must have taken a lot of time.  The one downside to this radio show for me was that it seemed like a long commercial. Personally, all the radio shows I listen to choose a topic to discuss and then play some clips as well as discuss it. I am not saying that is the only type of radio show but I felt like this show was hard to follow and seemed like one long commercial Granted the topic was product placement in the wire so there will be a lot of commercial type of sound clips. I feel like it was hard to follow and stay interested in it. That being said it was put together very nicely and transitioned into other audio clips smoothly. Good Work!!!!
