The Wire, Season 2, Episode 12 with comments

I know that this was not a required blog but I just wanted to make a comment on how much I enjoyed watching the episode while Karen Thorson and editor Thom Zimny were commenting on the episode.  I had two functions going at once.  I watched the episode from the library but had the sound muted.  I had the sound and the comments running from DS Radio 106.  I was able to time it (thanks to the theme song) to about only a few seconds off.  It worked close enough.

Some of the ideas and concepts that they talked about was very interesting.  I liked how the audience “learned” along with Pearlman and the detectives about Nick’s side of the story of how everything happened.  He tells his story without sitting down to tell the story.  I like how David Simon uses this way to communicate the story to the audience.

I also liked the way that he portrayed Daniel’s separation by showing them go to separate bed rooms and the light goes out giving you a feeling that the light also represents their relationship.

I also liked the other scene that was discussed in detail showing the meeting with Spiros and West side Prop Joe.  I found it very entertaining that the ice cream truck was authentic.  It ties you into the scene as if you are there also by tying any child hood memories to an ice cream truck.

I also like the authentic sounds and actions of filming directly on the docks.  This helps keep the sounds and actions of a dock real for the audience.

I enjoyed listening to the comments.
