White Drug Dealers

I find the white drug dealers to be really hilarious. They look like children, so I guess it’s only fitting that they know Ziggy.

I did think it was pretty great that it meant Herc was able to go out on the street instead of it always being a black person as most drug dealers are black and thus most black police officers put their lives in danger more often than white police officers do (this was brought up in season 1 after Kima was shot).

Ziggy & the Drug Dealers

Ziggy getting into trouble is not big surprise as he does business like Orlando does, and we all know how Orlando ended up. Despite Ziggy being in a scary situation, a lot of the details in this scene were humorous. We see a hundred dollar bill serving as an ornament in Ziggy’s car. We also learn that Ziggy’s car is named Princess.

I also really loved this shot where Ziggy’s mouth is bloody and red and he’s lying on top of the hood of his red car, which the sunlight is causing to reflect on him. Everything is very red, which seems to suggest that his death is imminent.

Feels Like Season 1 All Over Again

Now that Carter’s back, it really feels like old times. Herc and Carter’s reunion was funny and with its expected homophobic undertones: “Don’t touch my dick, faggot!”

The mostly empty bulletin board also has me excited for the coming episodes and seeing it get filled up.

The Baltimore Knot

McNulty referred to his poor rope tying skills as “The Baltimore Knot,” which he defined as “something that’s different every time.” I thought this was a really interesting way to talk about Baltimore, especially since Baltimore is the main character of this show.

The Pit

Here we see Poot sitting on the black couch in the pit. The pit really feels different, especially with the different color palette.

Stringer in School

Screen Shot 2014-09-17 at 9.19.54 AM

Stringer’s community college is starting to seem less and less legitimate the more I see it. The bell ringing to signify that the class period was over seemed like he was actually in high school.

However, the discussion of supply & demand as well as the question he asks the professor after class serve as a great moment for showing where the Barksdale crew is headed with their business.

Blue, Red, & Yellow

Here are some instances of red, yellow, & blue appearing in shots.

This might be a farther reach to say that it fits in this color motif, but the lighting makes the sides of the houses look blue and yellow and then there’s the red brick.

Red, White, & Black

This seems to be a new color motif in the series, or a combination of important colors we’ve seen previously. It reminds me a lot of chessboards, checkers, and playing cards.

Burning Car

Screen Shot 2014-09-17 at 9.39.18 AM

Just like Omar’s van, Ziggy’s car has been set ablaze after crossing a drug crew.

Technology                  Screen Shot 2014-09-17 at 9.47.26 AM Screen Shot 2014-09-17 at 9.47.51 AM

The technology in this show still makes me laugh. The novelty of the internet is so entertaining to watch. Nick even questions the effectiveness of the search bar.

Humor

I found this episode to be really humorous, way more humorous than previous episodes have been. Maybe it’s just that I’m more familiar with the characters and can see the humor in their actions and statements.
