Week 5 Summary
Photoblitz
After reading we had to do a Photoblitz assignment, I had no idea what this was. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this assignment. It’s like a race to show your true creativity in photography! Take a look at the photos I took in 20 minutes here.

Thursday Night Wire106 Live Tweeting
On Thursday night at 9:00 PM, I participated in one of the Wire106 Live Tweet sessions in which we watched an episode of the wire (S2E8) without sound to focus more on the visuals. I have to admit, watching an episode of The Wire (or any show for that matter) makes it very difficult to comprehend what is going on. It was a challenge using only the visuals and context to just guess what was going on. However, I feel like this was the best way to analyze the visuals of an episode. I enjoyed listening to other DS106er’s observations and ideas on Twitter, and I even got to amuse Jim Groom with one of my live tweetings!
Visual Assignments
I had fun experimenting with different elements of photography this week: lighting, perspective, colors, depth, and more. Can’t wait for what’s in store assignment-wise this coming week!
Assignment #1: Neighborhood Nature
Assignment #2: Beware the Wild Zion
Assignment #3: Coffee and Chihuahuas
The Wire: Season 2, Episodes 6-8
WOW! These episodes of The Wire were so dramatic. It was sad saying goodbye to D’Angelo Barksdale, I felt like he was just starting to turn his life around. I guess it’s all the game. It also upset me to see McNulty making an effort to reconcile with his wife, but failing. Below are some scenes I found visually interesting:
The white smoke Ziggy is blowing against the dark background is a really cool effect!
Throughout these episodes, I saw a lot of across the table shots in the scenes with Sobotka and Daniels–maybe this helped to emphasize “boss talk” or negotiations.
I love this shot of the messy table. You can tell the detectives have bee working long and hard nights.
I think this shot of Frank addressing the workers is pretty cool. I feel like I’m Frank myself looking out at all the workers. You can definitely tell Frank is under pressure.
