Week 4 Summary

I am enjoying this season of The Wire so much more than the last season, especially because it is the same team working on the case, but it is a very different case. I like the mob and murder aspects of the mystery instead of just waiting to see if they can catch drug dealers. (Also I’m excited that Kima is back on the case and taking down obnoxious boys! So funny!)

I personally struggled with the audio assignments this week. I have never done anything with audio before, and learning this is for what ever reason much harder for me than learning gif techniques or any thing else we have done so far. I am getting the hang of Audacity, but I think the ideas that I have I still don’t know the techniques to pull them off. I might play around with some other audio programs later to see if they are better to my tastes. I’m still not sure if it’s Audacity that’s the problem though or if it’s just a problem that I have with audio.

I did the Radio Bumper Assignment , the Sound Story Assignment, and the Song Mashup Assignment.  I realize that the song mashup was probably too much for me to try this weekend, because I still have no idea what I’m doing, but once I started it I would have hated to give up on the feeble attempt.

I wrote a post about my ideas for the radio project. I would like to do something related to the technology of the show, because since that is how they are getting most of their information and evidence, it would be interesting to focus on that. Obviously I have no idea if anyone else is interested in this as well, but it’s out there.

I had a lot of fun listening to the Jen Ralston interview, and then posting about it. I love behind the scenes kind of stuff like that with shows, so it was very interesting. I liked that she talked obviously about The Wire, since she worked on that show. But I really liked that a lot of the stuff she talked about could be applied to almost any show.

And of course, my two Daily Creates. A fun doodle I did about my favorite chair and blanket, and a creepy picture of old men playing golf.

When commenting on people’s blogs this week [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7], it was really cool to see what other people are able to do for audio assignments. I am personally still struggling with Audacity and the audio assignments, but some people seem to be experts already, and they were talking about different programs that I might try out just to see if they are easier for me. I also really liked Ien’s idea for a radio show. I’m still not sure if I will join that group, but if not it still would be cool to listen to. It was also super fun to try to guess the songs that were played backwards, and some of them sounded exactly the same and some were so different, so that was really interesting.
