Audio. This week we focused on Audio. Audio is a topic that we each have over looked previously. Never have I sat and thought about the work that goes into just making the sounds that we hear on movies, tv shows, and even audiobooks. Sounds help us to identify with the characters, to feel their emotion, to better understand the scene, and even to transport us immediately to the location that the producer wants us to be. The sound of the harbor, the emotion of the music, the bark of a dog, or the cry of a baby take us from our world into the character’s world. There were three assignments that I did this week in audio.
The first assignment that I did was a Sound Scape. I wanted to create my own harbor. It required closing your eyes and letting your mind drift into what would be around you if you were there. Minus the smell of the water, what do you need to be there. Seagulls, water sounds, boats, ships, waves, the sound of walking on the dock. I tried to tie all of these sounds into my sound Scape..
Another assignment that I did with audio this week was my radio ad for DS106 Radio. I had so much fun working on this. I really enjoyed using Audacity. It was fun playing with the effects and adding my voice. Here is a link to my ad assignment..
The last audio assignment that I did was reversing a song. I took the song
“Whiskey Lullaby” by Brad Paisley and Allison Krause and reversed it with Audacity. It was so funny that the music sounded almost exactly the same backwards and forwards. I had accurate guesses from Amy and Brittany! Yeah! Here is a link to my reversed song..

Also this week, we talked about episode 4 online. We each bought a clip that we wanted to talk about. I talked about the opening scene with Frank and Nick. Frank in this scene is coming down hard on Nick for allowing Ziggy to get in trouble. I don’t think that Frank realizes how much trouble Ziggy gets into all by himself. I think he is in denial just like the deaths of all of those girls.
We also had this week, the interview with Jennifer Ralston. This was an incredible interview that was the icing on the “Audio” cake this week. So many ideas of how to build an audio scene, were completely surprising to me. Never had I ever thought about portraying silence with audio or even in a loud scene that you would add sound to make it clearer. Even the use of sound to show a character’s trait such as a dog or a baby.
Audio has been a very interesting and fun topic this week. This week has definitely made me feel so blessed that I do have the gift of hearing. Sound is so important in everything. This week has made me stop and realize this. Thanks for the eye opening this week. Until next week.. back to my duty on the roof….
