Weekly Summary: Week 2

This week was crazy busy, and I started using ds106 assignments as a break from my other work, because right now it’s my most fun class. First of all – the show. I really got into The Wire for the first time this week. Before this, I have only been mildly interested in the overall plot and I was only interested in the plot lines for my favorite characters; Kima, Bubbles, and Wallace. I’m really not sure why these are my favorite characters, but I think I like Kima because she is a bad ass, queer, lady cop, and Bubbles and Wallace are both underdogs that I was really rooting for. I got into the show more this week because the stories of the three best characters picked up – a lot. Kima was shot and for a few episodes it was unclear if she was going to pull through. Bubbles decided to get clean (so I was waiting for him to be killed or something because that would be a great way to pull at people’s heart strings). And Wallace also wanted to make a better life for himself (I was also waiting for him to die – and I was right). I think I got more into the plot line of the show as a whole because the story lines of my favorite characters seemed to matter a lot more to the story line as a whole. With Wallace being arrested and then sent away, and Kima being shot (and waiting for Bubbles to die even though that part didn’t happen (which I was very happy about)) there as a lot more at steak for my favorite characters and they were more integral to the story. Would Kima being shot end the operation? Would Wallace snitch on everyone? Would Bubbles die? Alright, so I guess that last one isn’t that important to the plot line as a whole except it would really upset me.  (Also for the record, I was watching this on the VRE during my long commute and if Bubbles had died  I would have been crying on the train probably so it’s very good he is still going strong). Overall I appreciate this show a lot more now, and even though not all of the characters will be the same in the next season, I am very excited to keep watching it.

For the gif assignment I decided to do episode 6, because for me this was when I became interested in the plot line of the show outside of my favorite characters. You could really see them beginning to build a case, and Omar was going to testify, and the operation came under threat from internal pressures. Great episode. I think I did a pretty good job picking what I thought were 6 important moments. Also making gifs was really fun!

I did four daily creates (Sept 2nd, Sept 3rdSept 4th, Sept 6th) which I am really loving so far. They don’t take that long, although I get really into them and spend longer than I probably should on them, and they make a great break from other work.

I commented on a few posts this week, but I’m having trouble at the moment finding them all.  (Lauren‘ book bloc, Jess’s gifs)
