Inspiration from Ken Burns

I was looking at the Reading Movies unit and the fact that 100 hours of YouTube videos are added every minute was crazy to me. The Ken Burns video started on an interesting note, with him talking about 1 and 1 equaling three. His idea about the sum of the parts and the nuanced stories was inspiring to think about different stories in video, but as a journalist in my stories as well. We need to look for the story that is not told. Film definitely does this but it is a manipulation as Burns said. Film and stories are representations of real life, or a life we wish to exist. This was thought provoking for me because we always want to show and reach the real Truth but never can because anything we create is automatically a representation of the Truth. Therefore, as Burns points out, we strive to get as close to the Truth as possible. The idea of emotional truth is something I did not think about, but I suppose we make things to produce some sort of emotional result, be it humor, anger, sorrow, etc. Film presents an outcome, a possibility of what could be or once was. Burns also brings up the idea that we make things subjectively, we are all driven to do things by other things that have occurred in our lives in some way. Thus, films can become a release, just as books or art and other outlets do. This video was great because it brought up motivations of creating art and that all inspirations come from something in our lives.
