Another week down….

This week was all about the video.  Let’s get right down to it:

 

“Swede an Episode”- For this assignment, Ien Harris and I decided to recreate the infamous scene from season 1 where Bunk and McNulty solve a previously unsolved murder while only uttering a single word over and over.  We decided to not do an exact reshoot of the scene, but to rather redo it as if it were Ien and me solving a problem in the lab.  And actually, this was a pretty accurate recreation of a few days from this summer when we were working in the same lab trying to get this system to work.  The dialogue is pretty darn similar.  As far as the production of this, we filmed it in about an hour in our lab in Jepson.  We had a mutual friend of ours, John Robie (see, I told you we would credit you for this John), that volunteered to do the actual filming.  To be honest, the hardest part of this shoot was the part where we get off of the elevator.  We had to re-shoot that about 4 times, either because other people were waiting for the elevator or our cameraman (John Robie) screwed up and didn’t hit record.  I have to say though, I am pretty pleased with the outcome.

 

“Scene Commentary”

 

For this assignment, I decided to provide commentary on the actual scene Ien and I decided to recreate.  This was such a powerful scene in that there is almost no verbal communication in the scene, yet viewers can easily follow the thought process of the two detectives.  As far as my creation of this commentary, I filmed this on my mac early one morning in my research lab.  I hope you like it!

In addition to the video assignments this week, we were to start work and make progress on our final projects.  I chose Sgt. Ellis Carver for my character (I can’t believe no one else picked him before I got to him…he’s easily one of the top 5 best characters on the show…shame on y’all…).  I decided that since Carver, at the end of the series, is a Lt. in BPD’s Western Division, he is probably more of a fun loving, but professional sort.  Therefore, I decided to create a LinkedIn profile, a twitter account, a tumblr account (that is totally dedicated to baltimore sports and all things police), and of course a Facebook account.  This should be a fun assignment, so we’ll have to see where this goes.

 

Daily Creates:

“What’s on Your Clothesline?”, Oct. 30th

This one was pretty simple, as I just drew it on the white board during a break from work.  It’s the Fall time, so my theoretical clothesline would have a football jersey, jeans with permanent grass stains, and some t-shirts.

 

“A Geek Magnetic Poem, Please?”, Nov. 10th

What’s cool about this daily create is that we already had a scientific set of these magnets in the lab that we play with and leave stupid little messages with.  It took me just a few minutes to create a new one and snap a quick pic of it.
