Live Tweeting Up A Storm

One of our assignments on the to-do list was to listen to an episode of The Wire and live tweet it. I miss the Tuesday and Wednesday session so I had to join in tonight! I wanted to prepare myself so I watched episode 5 of season 2 earlier today. A part of me wanted to just listen first and then watch the video but after listening to the Jen Ralston interview, i changed my mind. I figured, once you’ve watched the episode you’ve got the basic idea of what’s going on. Then, when you switch to just audio, you force your brain to relate the audio to each scene you’ve recently seen. Basically, i just wanted a brain work out. I like to test my memory, too. The whole experience of the just-audio episode was overall enjoyable. I have a screen shot or two of my tweets but please, go under the #ds106radio tag to see everyone’s!

Thoughts:

Like i said above, i wanted to give my brain a workout. When i tuned in, it was at the scene where Bubbles and McNulty meet. I tried to narrow down exactly where they were and my attention was caught at the sound of chains. So then i hear the officer say McNulty was just radioed in and realized the chains came from Bubbles messing around with the grill outside the station. That’s where this started to be fun. Little audio clues like that triggered memories in my brain from the episode. Another instance was when Valchek was in his office. I heard the sound of paper being ripped or maybe opened and then figured out that this was scene where another picture of his stolen van was mailed to him. I listened closely to hear everything in that scene. I attempted to make out the sound of him peeling off the fingerprint paper, but that was a little harder. If i didn’t hear the sound of paper opening, i wouldn’t have any clue what scene that was because everything else was so faint, except for his cursing. Overall, this was a great assignment. I’m not sure how it would have went down if i didn’t listen to the interview first because i wouldn’t know what to listen for in this episode. Audio is way more important than anyone could imagine.
