Lucky #7

This week has been somewhat mystic and out of the ordinary. I guess some of this can be attributed to the lack of a presence from Big Brother Groom ( his circumstances well understood), it just always seems that he is a reminder that there is something we should be doing at all times that is relevant to DS106.

The week was however saved by the intervention of our favorite cousin ole’ Bond! He was sure to direct us back to the path with instructions as to how we would continue #DS106 4 life! The first of our duties was to check in with our radio groups and begin the strategics on our radio shows. Our team would later be informed that a newbie was coming to our team. I don’t know how he will fit in as of yet with us older biddies but he is of our same age profile so I’m sure he will fit right in.

So far our newbie has initiated a Google Doc’s and us biddies targeted a meet date at the ITC Center for Monday seeing that the campus is on Fall Break. We attempted to gain an appointment at the UMW Digital Knowledge Center but that was an epic fail; as I stated before the campus is closed but the unfortunate will still be working. We were therefore lucky to grab Big Brother Groom to meet with us this day.

Daily Creates

The Daily Creates didn’t press us to much this week THANK GOD so we were able to exhale a bit more than usually. The first TDC I chose was “Your Weird and Wonderful DS106 Letterhead”I wanted the letterhead to reflect this course, the course focus, and my blog as well; so I allowed those elements to direct my creativity. I chose to use piktochart to make my letterhead because I wanted to incorporate The Wire title from WIRE 106 along with the pic from Wire 106 Hub. I used the two images

and fused the two. I then chose an urban looking font to use for my blog title and a more classy style for the DS106. My intention was to make all three entities, as powerful as they are, flow together and stand out on their own accord without taking from the other.

My second TDC was a writing exercise “Share Your Pearls of Wisdom”. We shared a book of our own reading which shared wisdom page for page. I had to offer up Michelle Alexander’s “The New Jim Crow” it is definitely a “Word to the Wise”.

    Audio Assignments

These provided countless hours of pure enjoyable listening. Given the task to play with music for hours upon hours was no punishment at all. Now if I could have gotten a “get out of midterms from other classes” pass at the same time it may have been a perfect haven.

My first assignment worth 3 stars was BadCutty Mash. The two songs I chose were Some Cut by Trillville and Bad by Wale. Triville’s song although very provocative and full of Masochism lyrics its instrumentals are the inspiration to Wale’s more charming ballad.

My Next assignment was worth 3 stars as well “Funk Wit Me“. The final project took me several hours as I used six songs and over 6 minutes of track. I was highly disappointed this morning when reviewing Paul Bond’s comment; I then noticed only two of the six tracks had taken. I couldn’t let that slide it haunted me all day so I went back, trimmed and edited again, uploaded, and reviewed it. I’ve included that extended updated version here

My last four stars I gained through a combination of a 1 1/2 star assignment and a 3 1/2 star assignment where I became a spoken word poet for the afternoon. “Real on The Wire” is my summation of The Wire this far.

YouTube, Audacity, and Soundcloud and I became very well acquainted this weekend which is good. These tools prove to be powerful sort of like power tools in my toolbox in my future blogging life!
