Another week down. Wasn’t too bad of a week. I was able to get some more of the work done earlier in the week but it was still a tough week with all of my other classes trying to cram everything in before fall break.  Speaking of fall break…. I wonder if we will get a little less work either this week or next week since the break falls in between both weeks. I will be without internet for the break so hopefully there isn’t too much work to complete so I can get it done before I go away. But on the bright side this week is complete and I am finished before 9:30pm. Yay me.

 

Assignments

• Paste Someones Head on an Animal (3.5Stars) – This assignment had me create a human animal. I decided to link this one to The Wire because Ziggy and his pet duck in the recent episodes. Also, after watching episode 10 it made me think of what made ziggy go crazy. Now his duck didn’t make him shoot the Greeks but I think that the pet duck symbolized him starting to go crazy. At the time I didn’t think anything of it but now that is my thought. Using Photoshop, the magnetic lasso, patience, and some good country music in the background I was able to create this beautiful create called Zucky (Ziggy + Duck).

• Barcode Transformation(2.5 Stars) – Using and ordinary barcode I had to transform it into something more interesting. To figure out what shape I wanted to make the barcode into I searched on Google for a silhouette and came across a Mickey Mouse head. I figured I would do that design because it is something everyone knows. To create the image I used the magnetic lasso yet again as well as layering parts of the picture. It was a fun assignment, not too difficult but took some time.

• Create an Invoice (2 Stars) – I decided for this assignment to complete an invoice of the heist ziggy completed before he went a-wall. I know he wouldn’t have made an invoice for the job since it is all under the radar but I estimated the prices of everything that he used or needed to do for the heist. Also, as discussed in the episode ziggy was suppose to get 20% pay. Obviously he didn’t get the rate he wanted which is why he went crazy but the total cost of this invoice is the estimated 20% of the cost of the Mercedes S Series in 2002. I could not find the actual cost from them but currently they start at $95,000. Also Ziggy and George Glekas never stated the exact number of cars he was getting so I estimated 5 from the number of pictures they looked at.

• Picture Into Words (2 stars) – In this assignment I had to use pictures of objects to create a word or words. I decided to make the words “Bad Dreams” (Episode 11 Season 2). I decided to use that episode title as my words because I believed it was a very important episode as well as super crazy because of ziggy becoming a hard@$$. It was a litler difficult to find the letters I needed. My house is pretty bland and we don’t have much unique stuff in it (what a shocker, 3 boys not decorating their house). In the end I found something for each letter.

• Cartoonize Bubba (1 star) – This assignment was simple to do once you found the right options to choose. It was nice to take a break from the hard assignments and complete a simple but cool assignment. I used a picture of a dog and I when I was younger. She passed away about 3.5 years ago. I was going to use this picture for a dailycreate but forgot to upload the image so I decided to use it now.

• Animate a Comic Book Cover (4 Stars) – Now this assignment was very very very time consuming. I think It should be worth 5 stars but it really all depends what you decide to animate. I personally think animating a title is simple to do. For mine I wanted a challenge and well I got one. I animated a 1991 X-Men Comic book cover. Cyclopes is on it and he is shooting a lazer out of his eyes. I animated that lazer to try to make it look like the lazer was shooting. The most difficult part was trying to Photoshop the area behind the lazer. I tried to make it as realistic as possible and I think it turned out good.

 

Daily Creates:

1. The Pirates Have Landed – When I read this daily assignment it immediately made me think of The Pirates of the Caribbean and the song Pirate Flag. My write-up was about the pirates landing in a Virginia area and visiting an ABC store to take all of the dark rum. I was referring to the scene in The Curse of The Black Pearl when Jack Sparrow and Elizabeth were on the deserted island and had all of that rum. I also incorporate the song Pirate Flag into it because I really like that song and it makes me think about the British Virgin Islands and I cannot wait to go back there.
2. Water and Glass Moving Around– This daily create was quite fun. I actually had my roommates help me with completing. I had the idea of wanting to do something different but did not want to have to do video cutting. I used Vine to create this video. It took us 2 takes to get it how I wanted but it was a fun little thing to do with my roommates.
3. 1000th Daily Create – for this one I chose a three of my own previous daily creates and created a collage to celebrate the power of daily create.

 

Design Blitz

I have never looked at the design of things as much as I have this past week. I am not really into designing things or the look of things. I am  a pretty simple man, but it was definitely interesting to look at things so closely this week. I wouldn’t say design is my thing but I at least got to see it from the other side. Meaning actually caring about how things are designed. For this weeks blitz I first read the different types of designs and then looked at the different examples to get an idea of what it was. It seemed that when I tried really hard to find the designs I was looking for I couldn’t find them. As soon as I stopped looking and just went about my day I realized the designs were all around me. I was just not seeing them.

 

Vignelli Reflection

What was probably an interesting read to some people it was not to me. It didn’t grasp my attention immediately and that usually does not go well with me when I need to read something. My thoughts are not too long but it was tough for me to fully understand all of his point. He seems like a great writer and understands design very well but I was just not too interested into this reading.
