Week 4: Lots and lots of noise

I gotta say I like the idea of having themed weeks for this class. Makes it easier to know what I’m doing and I’m still easily in the habit of using the same programs over and over. Still, I am surprised at the amount of work I got done.

In terms of actual assignments, I worked on three separate audio projects:

Overall totaling over 7 stars. I gotta say I feel good about most of these assignments. They weren’t terribly difficult to do, and I learned a lot of new functions and effects of the Audacity program. I would probably say audio manipulation is one of my favorite aspects to work with, as I don’t have to worry about working with the large file sizes that videos can have. A different form of audio assignment I worked on involved not producing, but listening. I listened to Season 2 episode 4 of The Wire courtesy of ds106 radio, and livetweeted my reactions. Just search for the tag #ds106radio!

I also worked on two daily creates; a silly and creative pose featuring my cat, and a photographic representation of myself using my own personal library. I had a lot of fun choosing which books to use to actually reflect me. There’s something quite relaxing about having a perfectly filled bookshelf nearby.

I also got to utilize my new category, Thoughts! I gave my own detailed thoughts and reactions to Jen Ralston’s interview for ds106, and also proposed my own concept of a radio segment involving this semester’s project, The Wire. I’m actually really excited for that project as I’m feeling a lot more comfortable with audio editing. For a bit of fun, I also shared a segment done by Radiolab depicting how the War of the Worlds radio panic was not a one time thing!

I am pretty curious now as to what next week will encompass. Will we eventually have a video focused week? A photo one? A video game one would be crazy if it could somehow be made to work. Only time will tell. I’ll let you know all about it in the next posts!
