Intro DS 106 and Weekly Summary of The Wire

By far the easiest task and the one I thoroughly enjoyed was watching the 9 episodes of ‘The Wire’ though not realizing just how much work I had in store, I found myself struggling with time management completing all assigned tasks for the week. I’ve been anxious to view The Wire and hearing that it would be the catalyst of our discussions really sparked my attention.

Professor Groom and Paul Bond’s Hangout Chats were great tools in conveying what we should be concentrating our efforts on when viewing ‘The Wire’ which created yet another dynamic to this course. Many points were ones that I did identify with but had no idea of how relevant they would be to the story line. In addition, there were things I noticed and felt were equally significant in episodes 1 through 9 such as the portrayal of homosexual relations between Omar and Brandon. Although there is the existence of the “down low brother” within the project and ghetto environment, they aren’t necessarily exposed. The role that Omar portrays of the roughneck, thuggish, ruggish feared by all is not usually the figure one associates with being of a homosexual nature. I also noticed that with addressing parallels there is a character within each of these class structures which models a character within a higher hierarchy of class structure. Avon is the parallel of Daniels as D’Angelo is the parallel of McNulty.

I aspire to go much more in depth with this following weeks assignments now thatI know how to play the game!
