Let’s get visual

So this week I caught the UMW plague so I was basically immobile for 3 days and I definitely think that effected my work. I wish I spent more time doing these assignments, but here’s what I have to show.

Live Tweeting The Wire: No sound

Last week was only audio, now our assignment was to watch an episode of The Wire with no sound. I watched Season 2 episode 7. I found it to be a pretty interesting assignment. Taking away audio allows you to focus more on what’s going on in the scene. It gives you more of an appreciation what the set designer intended to be in that exact scence, because every little thing has a purpose. I found myself paying much more attention to costumes, colors, lighting, and lines. Here are my tweets from the live tweeting session to show a little of what was going through my head.

Visual Assignments

3 stars. Here’s my wiggle steroscopy!

Basically it’s just a two frame gif. I took two pictures at slightly different angles and uploaded them as layers into GIMP. Then just exported it as a gif and here you have it. I do wish the movement was a little smaller to make it look more like a wiggle than a shake.

2 and a half stars. Originally T-Swift and Miley Cyrus, I now introduce me and my bae, Brittany. Brittany was my roommate sophomore year and the first person i ever lived with in my first house when I moved to college. We met on Craigslist when she was looking for a roommate. We ended up becoming best friends forever, so she is my bae <3

I’m not so good at cropping in and out faces, but I took this picture from the internet and cropped out the faces in a basic photoshop editor and put in these new ones.

3 stars. Here is my 10 step photo challenge. I used Pic Monkey to make the collage. In 10 steps you get a pretty good view of the front on my dad’s house.Sometimes I took little steps, and others big steps. I crouched down, looked up and all around. I like all the browns and greens and all the common neutral colors that emphasis the sunset and give it a calm feel.

2 and a half stars. This was a fun assignment. Google autocorrects are so funny, like the fact people actually search for these things scares me.

I searched “I hate it when” and it finished with “I’m studying and a velociraptor throws.” What is he throwing? Where did a velociraptor come from? Either way I’m studying and I’m giving him my wtf face because I’m assuming he’s bugging me and messing with my work. Since I’m a photoshop noob and a paint expert, I just posted these pictures in paint and erased the background behind me.

3 and a half stars. This is one of <a href=”http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/my-favorite-lyric/”>my favorite lyrics</a>. It’s from a Dave Matthews song, Lie in Our Graves. I found this photo on flickr and then just used Google Picasa editor to put the lyrics in. Dave Matthews in one of my favorite artists and I’ve grown up listening to him. He has such a great voice and relatable, beautiful lyrics. I got to see him live this past summer and it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. He has so many quotable lyrics, but I really like this one because it just makes you want to feel happy and free. I also think of swinging when I hear this lyrics so that’s why I chose this picture of a girl on a swing going up into the clouds.

Photoblitz
Here was my 20 minute Photoblitz challenge. I did it in about 18 minutes. It doesn’t give you much time to think about what you want to do, so it sparks some quick creativity! I was able to take all of these in my room.

Today’s theme is “3”. Make a photograph that features the number itself or otherwise represents 3 items.Take an extreme close-up of an easily recognizable, common object.

Naturally, the first thing I could think of having 3 of was beers. Cheers!

Someone else’s hand (or paw)

This was a tough one since I don’t have any pets and all my roommates weren’t home. I found this picture of a concert I went to in 2012 called Starscape. One of the best nights of my life, and many many hands.

Since the only camera I have to work with is my phone, this is my attempt to isolate the motion of an object. If it was still, I think it would just look like the fan was off.

The first circle I found was my watch. I wear it every day. It was a present from my brother last Christmas. You can see the reflection of my tapestry.
