All in the Sounds

After reading and listening to this week’s agenda, I was very intimidated by it due to all the audio. Turns out, it really was not that bad! Audacity was not that intimidating and the audio assignments were enjoyable! The process of doing all the assignments was not too troubling, you can read more about my process in the posts. I absolutely loved how eye-opening the Radio Show was. I never heard the sounds when I was watching the show, it is so cool how much you can pick up on by simply just listening.

The Wire:

Episode 3-

Omar is back! He is still just as threatening as he was in season one. He has his new significant other and it back in the game. McNulty was shown having time with his kids and has a separation agreement. He finds out Daniels is going to put in his papers and become a lawyer.

McNulty thinks he has figured out the case before Bunk and them, so when he goes they make him feel degraded. Turns out the girls were prostitutes who witnessed a murder of another fellow prostitute. There was a scene where McNulty just stares at a picture of the girl he fished out of the water. He seems to be having a hard time letting go. In the meantime, Stringer goes and talks to Ds “baby momma” to encourage her to go visit him in jail.. But then he ends up making a move on her!

Politics comes back into play in this episode. With the mixer where the dock worker, Saboka, tries to butter up politicians and the dinner with Valcheck. Stan Valchek is now blackmailing Burrell about the Barkstale case and the money to get him a better team to investigate Saboka.

No matter where Avon is, he always has some control! Avon warned D to take a break from drugs then later that night, a lot of the prisoners got a bad pack of drugs and had a reaction to it. The ending scene was significant because Avon was just sitting there reading his book during all of it, showing he knew it was going to happen. I just thought, what is Avon going to get out of this?

Episode 4-

The opening scene was interesting it showed Frank just staring off into the distance talking about how Baltimore gangs are selling their cargo. He now wants to bring the cameras back, but yet, Frank knows he knows exactly who, what, and how the stuff is getting stolen. “You can’t win a war on drugs in prison where the hell you gonna win it”. The warden has a good point, prisons are supposed to be tight and secure, if we can’t control inmates how can we control everyone else? Of course, Avon had a plan with the bad drugs, he knew they’d want to figure out who did it so in return he would get years off. Avon always seems to find a way to get what he wants. Nick and zig remind me a lot of Avon and D. They both are two partners in crime, they have each other’s backs no matter what happens.

Daniels went to submit his papers, but Burrell tried to convince him not to by putting him on Valcheks detail. Daniels is finally getting what he wants, he asked to pull his own people and is going to get a promotion. Kima still can’t get rid of the cop side of her. Daniels then asks her to be a part of his new detail. At dinner with Daniels wife and Kima and her wife, they both parallel each other. I liked the scene where Rawls and Jimmy pass and Rawls just stares, you can just see the amount of hatred he has for Jimmy.

Episode 5-

The opening scene showing Zig is trying to be tough when gets shown up in front of his people, undermining his authority he already lacked. Nick ends up trying to go to Zigg’s rescue by attempting to get his car back as well as make the payment due date later. Daniels asked Craver to join the detail he’s running so it is now only missing McNulty! Although McNulty is not on the case he is still trying to work the case about the girl he fished out of the water. Bubs is still present in this season, which I love because he brings so much character to the show. He found Omar for McNulty so Omar could testify and is the same old Bubs. I love how the show, is starting to tie in all the characters like McNulty’s wife, soon to be ex, shows a house in one of the dock workers, Nikki.

When Valcheck got a list of all the summons, he got very defensive about loosing that one can in the stacks. The cases parallel, Omar is now testifying against Bird, directly after the summons scene. The case is finally connected to drugs rather than the homicides. Avon and stringer are trying to work out a plan to get their business up and running again. Stringer is showed more and more in his business class, then holds a meeting with his crew. All the drugs seemed to have shifted on over the east side of Baltimore which is now where the case is being made. Loving how everything is now coming together!

After live tweeting to this episode, I realized so many new things. You never really realize how much sound can influence the whole show! I have a high respect for the background noises and all the sounds. Without the images in front of you, it is amazing what you can hear.

Here are a few of my tweets:

Many of the sounds actually did parallel with another scene in the episode.
