I thought I’d help my radio show group kill two birds with one stone by creating an audio assignment that related to the content we’re creating for our radio show. The assignment is to make a radio ad out of product placement that occurs in a TV show or movie.

I decided to turn the McNuggets conversation from season 1 of The Wire into a McDonald’s commercial.

I found the clip from the episode and the McDonald’s jingle on YouTube and downloaded them as MP3s using http://www.youtube-mp3.org/. I then imported them into Audacity and combined the clips. I trimmed the ending of the McNuggets conversation and I adjusted the volume of each clip as the McNuggets one was rather quiet and the jingle was really loud. Then I uploaded it to YouTube.

I really like the juxtaposition of a rather negative discussion of McDonald’s business practices with the McDonald’s jingle of “I’m Lovin’ It.”
