Update from the roof, week ending 10/5/2014

This week was a very crazy week.  I worked very heavily this week to get all of the assignments for the design week completed.  Design assignments tie so many concepts together.  In many of the design assignments, there were elements of visual, ideas of creations, and what tools do you use to create the assignment.  We also had some daily creates that tied in audio and video.  This made for a very busy week.  The design assignments have less stars than assignments for previous weeks which means that there will be more assignments to complete.  This made the overall focus this week, time management.

The first works of the week that I will discuss are the daily creates.  We were to create atleast 3 daily creates this week.  My first daily create was my story of “The pirates are coming”.

My next daily create is of water moving in a glass.  An assignment such of this calls for our best glasses.  Our skeleton glasses.  :)

The last daily create of the week was the Empathy Map.  I created my map on Frank Sabotka.

For my Design assignments this week, I did my first assignment as keeping up with the cast. (design assignment 1398) This assignment was 3 star but required a huge amount of time to research the information on each character.  I used IMDB to research each character that I included.  Each of the characters that I had in my assignment went on to other successful roles.  I will attach a copy of one of the images and a link to the assignment.  There was a huge amount of research that went into this post.  The post was not just an image.

The next assignment was to create a Venn Diagram using characters from The Wire.  This design assignment 596 was 4.5 stars.  I used so much of the information from the previous assignment to create this assignment.  In this assignment, I wanted to tie the characters, Frank Sabotka, Lester Freamon, and “The Greek” together.  I apologize for the small font.  It was hard to manipulate the circles in pizap to make them large enough in the middle areas for larger font to fit.

The next assignment was to paste someone’s head on an animal’s body. (3.5 stars) (design assignment 1157)  I wanted to also make this related to The Wire so I did my assignment by portraying Frank Sabotka as a lamb.  The Greek is always referring to lambs and lambs to the slaughter.  Since Frank is going to stand up to the Greek in episode 11, I decided I would portray him as a lamb.

The next assignment (design assignment 1053) was to paste our face on a celebrity or a person that we would like to be.  My person that I have selected is Galadriel, the Elven Queen, from Lord of the Rings. (2 stars)  I downloaded an image of Galadriel from Google Images.  I then used piZap to paste my face onto hers.  I had great difficulties trying to get everything to line up.  Her face is very narrow and she has high eyebrows.  This made it difficult to paste my entire face over hers.  I ended up saving the image in piZap and switching over to Windows Live Photo Gallery to try to further correct my “face plant”.  To try to clean up the image as best as I could, I flipped the image to a black and white style.  This helped the uneven tones.  I think this could have fit better if I had a picture of myself looking into the distance at the same exact angle that Galadriel’s face was in.

My last assignment was design assignment 807 for 2.5 stars, a motivational poster.  For me, a motivational poster could be represented by no one else other than my favorite character, Omar.  I wanted to pull Omar into this assignment.  I used one of the images that I had used for the “Where are they now?” design assignment.  I inserted the image into pizap and added  a border and text to complete the poster.  Knowing the kind of character that Omar is leaves no better motivational remark than “What Would Omar Do?”.  I just love that he is a character that has his own code that he lives by and no one can control him.  “All in the Game” is exactly Omar.

The last project of the week is a designblitz.  In a designblitz, several design terms will be explained using images taken over the week.  Below is a link to my designblitz.

This was a very busy week.  I felt overwhelmed at times but I happy that all assignments were completed and on time.  It makes me feel much better knowing that another week has been successfully completed.  On to next week…  Be sure to tune in next Sunday to see how another week on the roof has been….
