Week 10: Video killed the Wire106’er

Man this week. Entering the double digits, and what feels like double work. Unfortunately, I was not able to meet the criteria of 10 stars of video assignments. I did manage to make an animated music video though, which I put a lot of work into. I also did my best to think critically about the art of film and cinematography as a whole.

I did a short little analysis of a scene from The Wire, making special note of the video, audio, and how they work together to make a greater whole. Reading the associated article by Ebert was fascinating, as it shed some light into the art of filmmaking that I’d never considered before. It was cool to learn how positions of characters can set a mood, or illustrate their traits.

I also joined in on Tuesday’s video discussion of season 3, episode 8 of The Wire. We had a great talk about the video/audio components of the episode, and how the creative directors took advantage of the medium that is film. There were many great cues to talk about, from the differing soundscapes of the different settings, to the beautiful framing technique used in the final scene. I learned a lot about what to look for, and what to notice when it comes to filming. I can only hope to carry these ideas into future projects.

For daily creates, I took a picture illustrating sleep, and snapped a photo of something shrouded in darkness. I also added two posts to the Inspire site!

I will make up for my lackluster performance next week! So until then!
